#TakeAnHour Mentoring Campaign
The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division is challenging you to #TakeAnHour during the month of March and reach out to a potential mentor and meet with them for one hour. This can take place during lunch, after work, etc. The YLD believes that all young lawyers should have a good mentor, because mentors pass down valuable skills you can only learn through experience. As part of our #TakeAnHour campaign, we are using the YLD’s social media to share incredible mentoring materials on our website. For example, the YLD website contains dozens of Mentoring with the Masters videos designed to give young lawyers valuable tips and practical advice to improve their practice. These short, practical videos feature successful lawyers who address discrete areas of interest designed to make young lawyers better practitioners in and out of the courtroom. In addition, we have also created a Mentoring Matters webpage dedicated to assisting young lawyers find an existing mentoring program in their area.
President Ray Abadin is hosting a free webinar entitled “Professionalism as a Survival Strategy in a Changing Environment” on March 23rd. In this free webinar, President Abadin addresses the changing legal environment and the things lawyers – especially young lawyers – need to know about the future of our profession. You can register for the webinar here.
And finally, the YLD has worked with several successful lawyers around the state to create simple how-to videos designed to teach young lawyers basic areas of practice. These videos are not your standard CLE. They provide practical advice and practice pointers in representing your client. Although our database is growing, our current videos teach you how to handle a basic divorce, simple eviction, basic probate, personal injury suit, medical malpractice case, and transition from government to private practice.
We challenge you to find a mentor and #TakeAnHour this month!
