Health & Wellness Activities for Law Students and Local Bar Affiliates

The following suggestions are primarily for law students, but local bar affiliates might find some useful ideas as well.

  • Coordinate events with Mindfulness Monday and/or Wellness Wednesday.
  • Host a meditation or yoga event. See list of potential presenters for ideas.
  • Take a group walk through campus, making sure to walk by places students might not know of that are relaxing so they can come back later. Provide snacks and water at the end.
  • Work with Florida Lawyers Assistance, Inc. (FLA) to present a program on how to identify and help other students/attorneys who are in distress.
  • Invite FLA representatives to campus to answer questions about character and fitness or other mental health and substance abuse issues (make sure to provide private rooms).
  • Set up a panel discussion with professors and/or local practitioners to talk about realities relating to grades and future success, and ways to reduce stress and deal with setbacks when thinking about finals and approaching your studies.
  • Host a stress management workshop.
  • Set up table with a board that includes many of the health and wellness related resources in your area, including information on how to contact school counseling services, Florida Lawyers Assistance, Inc., yoga classes, meditation centers, other fitness classes, upcoming runs or bike races, martial arts classes, barre classes, intramural events, dances, pet rescue centers, volunteering activities, massage and acupuncture facilities, and so forth. Provide coupons and discounts for the same.
  • Host a sunrise or sunset yoga class.
  • Offer free chair massages.
  • Have a “Puppy Pit” where a local rescue brings puppies into a room at the school so students can stop by to play with them and relieve stress, or even adopt them!
  • Host a meeting at a local dog park.
  • Host a fun social gathering with special “mocktails” and appetizers.
  • Host a gathering with tailgate-type or Olympics game competitions to have fun without alcohol.
  • Host a powder puff football game.
  • Host a softball/kickball/dodgeball game.
  • Host a feel good movie night outdoors.
  • Host a healthy cooking demonstration.
  • Provide healthy snacks or free smoothies.
  • Host a fitness challenge between 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls and professors/staff.
  • Organize beach events (walks, runs, surfing, volleyball, paddle boarding, picnics, etc.)
  • Have school counselors or FLA representatives available for questions – make sure there are private areas available for discussion.
  • Host a BBQ with live music.
  • Use #flayld and #WellLawyer to promote your activities!
