About The Law Student Division Essay Contest:

Each year, The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Law Student Division hosts an essay contest, which is sponsored by the Florida Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company (“FLMIC”).  The contest is open to all students enrolled in a Florida law school. The essay topics vary from year-to-year, but encourage Florida law students to write on current trending topics relevant to Florida’s growing legal practice. The essays are judged by a committee of at least three individuals including, but not limited to, a representative of The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division, FLMIC, and The Florida Bar’s General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Section.

Prizes and Recognitions:

The winner of the essay contest will receive:

  1. a $750 cash award;
  2. complimentary registration to the 7th Annual Solo & Small Firm Conference;
  3. hotel accommodations for the Conference provided by The Henry Latimer Center for Professionalism;
  4. recognition by the various sponsoring organizations at various events; and
  5. submission of the essay by the Young Lawyers Division to The Florida Bar Journal for consideration for future publication.

The student awarded an honorable mention prize will receive:

  1. a $350 cash award;
  2. recognition by the various sponsoring organizations at various events; and
  3. submission of the essay by the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Section to its newsletter editor for consideration for future publication in the Section's newsletter.
