It is an extraordinary privilege to continue serving Florida young lawyers, and I am both humbled and proud to have the opportunity to lead the Young Lawyers Division this upcoming year. It’s an exciting time to be a Florida lawyer, and I, along with the YLD Board of Governors have pledged to support and advocate for Florida’s young lawyers in every way we can.
It is vital to the profession that young lawyers continue to be mentored and educated. However, modern practice has made mentorship a challenge, leaving many new lawyers without support. For years, the YLD has tried to fill that gap, by creating basic skills courses, how-to videos, and webinars to teach young lawyers the ropes. This year, the YLD is continuing its support by creating a website designed to provide virtual education and mentorship to every young lawyer in Florida. The website will aggregate all of the YLD’s educational, webinar, video, and resource content in one searchable place, and will feature short 3-minute videos to create a virtual hallway of instant mentoring advice.
Beyond education and mentorship, the legal profession continues to evolve at a rapid pace and the YLD is committed to advocating for inclusion, equality, quality of life, and the advancement of mental health initiatives within our profession. We believe that our profession is stronger when we give everyone an equal shot to prove themselves and together tackle the challenges that face the young lawyers in our state.
We will be doing great things this year and there are many ways to get involved with the Florida Bar YLD. I encourage you to stay connected with your local YLD governors to learn about available opportunities.
The YLD believes that if young lawyers serve where they are needed and where they feel passionate, then we will have a better legal system as a result.
I look forward to serving with you this year.
