The chairs of the Pro Bono Committee, Stephanie Myron and Eric Elms, are continuing their effort to positively impact local communities during YLD board meetings throughout Florida this year. During the YLD board meeting in Amelia Island on August 25, 2017, we adopted Hyde Park Elementary School (HPES), a Title I school in downtown Jacksonville, where over 70% of the students are on free or reduced lunch. One of the teachers at HPES set up a “Donors Choose” page where we donated school supplies and uniforms for students who cannot afford them.
You can still donate directly through the link below and the items will be sent directly to the school.
When you donate through the link, you can make a note letting them know that you are with the Florida Bar YLD. This project has helped on many levels by serving an immediate need in the community, fostering a positive image of lawyers, and maybe even inspiring the students to go on to be a lawyer one day.
This project was so successful that it was fully funded before the start of the meeting! We even had board member, YLD President Elect Christian George, go above and beyond and agree to host the students for a tour of his Akerman office. This will provide these students with a great opportunity, as many of these students may have no other positive exposure to the legal field. Hopefully this will inspire students to go into the legal field and continue to have a positive impact on the local community. Thank you Christian and all who participated in this project!
