Board Highlights
The Thirteenth Circuit Governors will continue with their substantial level of involvement with the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division’s initiatives and goals this year. On October 11, 2019, Governors Patel and Willis will be hosting the Basic Business Law CLE in Tampa. The Thirteenth Circuit Governors are also heading up various other YLD committees: Governor Patel is co-chairing the YLD’s communications committee and will be leading the YLD’s communications with its members around state; Governor Willis is co-chairing the YLD’s Law School Exploratory Committee, which is developing a new program aimed at replacing the former Law Student Division with a more efficient means for law schools and law students to connect and work with the Florida Bar YLD; and Governor Dicks is co-chairing the YLD’s legislative committee and continuing his efforts to maintain the YLD’s strong relationships with all three branches of government. Governors Patel and Dicks are also both on the YLD’s Executive and Long Range Planning Committees, and Governors Patel and Willis are assisting the YLD with its biggest event of the year, the Affiliate Outreach Conference, which will be held in St. Petersburg in January 2020.
Section Highlights
The George Edgecomb Bar Association, Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers, Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the YLD of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federal Bar Association are all local affiliates of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit’s Local Affiliates are consistently recognized by the Florida Bar YLD for its outstanding programming and efforts. This past May, the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division’s member services committee was recognized by the Florida Bar YLD for its health and wellness bingo challenge where it encouraged its members to complete various health and wellness activities throughout the month of May, with a kick-off group exercise class at CAMP Tampa. The Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers also received a grant from the YLD for a Leadership Breakfast series which will debut this fall.
Member Spotlight
Joseline Hardrick recently received the Florida Bar YLD’s Diversity Award for her work in founding the Diversity Access Pipeline, a nonprofit organization that promotes diversity and creates access for law students. She is a former judicial law clerk for the Honorable Charlene Edwards-Honeywell and the Honorable James Moody, Jr. in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School at the Tampa Bay Campus.
