Jimmy Davis Hailed for Pro Bono Efforts

“Community Legal Services provides me with the opportunity to test how seriously I take the last part of the Oath of Attorney. It removes me from the cloistered environment created by private practice, a place where many underprivileged refrain from visiting because they understandably believe themselves to be undesirable as clients.”  Jimmy Davis

Jimmy Davis was admitted to the Florida Bar in October of 2012. He has since provided thousands of hours of pro-bono service to persons throughout Florida. He began volunteering with Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida, Inc. in November of 2012 and was added to their pro bono panel in January 2013 when he began assisting clients.  He has provided service to over 200 clients and has donated over 550 hours of pro bono services from January 2013 through September 2015.

Mr. Davis also participates in Community Legal Services weekly legal advice clinic in Daytona Beach where he provides assistance to clients and recruits and mentors attorneys who are now also providing assistance at the clinics.  He has developed interactive pro se forms that are used by other attorneys at the clinic to assist clients facing eviction actions and tenants renting homes in foreclosure.

Mr. Davis also volunteers with a Community Legal Services staff attorney, who works to preserve affordable housing for Central Floridians.  His research and co-counseling cases has proved invaluable to our success in this area. He has donated more than 200 hours working with staff cases in the area of affordable housing preservation, in addition to the 550 hours donated to assisting pro bono clients.  He has been successful in preserving housing for many low income clients, in defending clients in cases involving prohibited practices by landlords, and in securing monetary awards for clients.

Mr. Davis’ pro-bono service has not gone unnoticed.  In 2013 Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida, awarded Jimmy the Judge Robert K. Rouse, Jr. Pro Bono Services award. In 2014 he was awarded the Community Legal Services Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award and the Volusia County United Way Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2015 received the Florida Bar President Pro Bono Service Award.
