The Florida Supreme Court mandates that all newly-admitted lawyers complete a one day Practicing with Professionalism seminar within their first year of admission to The Florida Bar. This course, formerly known as Bridge-the-Gap, provides instruction on ethical and professional issues and fulfills a Basic Skills Requirement. To date, the seminar has involved in-person attendance for newly minted attorneys. On June 11, 2015, the Florida Supreme Court changed that aspect of the seminar by amending Bar Rule 6-12.3 to remove the requirement that lawyers attend the program in-person. Importantly, the Florida Supreme Court has authorized the Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar (YLD) to institute an online program effective October 1, 2015. The YLD is currently developing a virtual course that it anticipates will launch in the Spring of 2016.
The YLD will continue to provide live seminars in addition to the online course. The next available live courses will be hosted on August 6 and August 7, 2015 at the Miami Hyatt Regency Downtown, August 20 and August 21, 2015 at the Wyndam Resort Orlando, and September 3 and September 4, 2015 at the Tampa Airport Marriott.
