President DiGangi’s busy summer is paving the way for a productive Fall.

He attended the Board of Governors meeting in Destin from September 18-20, where the Board of Governors: voted on the 2020 Regular-Cycle Report of the Rules of Judicial Administration Committee (The report includes an amendment to Rule 2.330 that would change the procedure for disqualifying trial judges, including barring litigants from using the appearance of new or substitute attorneys as grounds for disqualification); decided whether it is misleading for a law firm to take over the widely publicized 1-800-411-PAIN phone number because callers are likely to associate it with the now-defunct qualifying provider service rather than an actual law firm; decided whether to support another advertising committee finding that a law firm’s billboard featuring the phrase, “ambulances chase us,” is misleading because it is both illegal and unethical for ambulance drivers to solicit cases for lawyers; and addressed a request by the Supreme Court for a rule amendment to allow applicants for military spouse certification to practice as certified legal interns while their applications are pending.

President DiGangi is also planning to attend the Florida Bar’s Fall meeting in Tampa from October 16-18, the YLD meeting in Clearwater from October 24-27, and the YLD Summit on Young Government Lawyers in Orlando on November 1.

Chief Justice Canady also invited the YLD to the Supreme Court’s swearing-in ceremony for new attorneys on October 2 and President DiGangi looks forward to welcoming the newly qualified Florida attorneys to the YLD division.
