Good Stuff: K9s for Warriors introduced the organization which strives to combat PTSD and suicide amongst veterans by pairing a vet with a trained canine. These canines are often rescue animals and the canine and veteran work together to heal and help the veteran transition into civilian life.

Access to Justice Commission: Gordon Glover presented the proposed rule change dealing with Advanced Florida Registered Paralegals. This rule is designed to give greater access to legal assistance to those in the low and moderate family incomes.  More than eighty percent of those that need legal assistance are not receiving assistance.  This is a proposed rule from the Access to Justice Commission that will go straight to the Florida Supreme Court.

ABA YLD: The Florida Bar YLD sent a delegation to the ABA Meeting in San Francisco. At the meeting Governor Brandon Wolff presented a rule change to the designation of a young lawyer to thirty six years of age or ten years of practice.  Florida young lawyer Logan Murphy was sworn in a the Chair of the ABA YLD at the San Francisco meeting.

FAWL: FAWL’s Lobby Days is scheduled for January 29 – 31, 2020 and FAWL’s Summit is scheduled for April 23 – 24, 2020.

Health and Wellness: This year the Committee will focus on additional stigmas facing young lawyers including unfair pay gap, maternity and paternity leave, type of employment, and lactation rooms. The Committee is also starting a Kindness Initiative to help lawyers be kind and courtesy to one another.

Government Lawyers: The November 1, 2019 Summit is being held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton 8978 International Drive, Orlando, Florida 32819.  Those interested in attending will be able to sign up through The Florida Bar YLD website.

Transition to Practice: The Transition to Practice Committee is highlighting current resources through the month of October through short videos on social media and the website.
