The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division is gearing up for its annual Affiliate Outreach Conference, set for January 13-14, 2017 at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Florida’s Legal Community: It’s a Small World After All,” a play on the Disney location but also a reminder to the young lawyers of Florida to always remember the importance of professionalism and reputation in the profession.
The conference is open to members of recognized young lawyer affiliates in Florida and designated Law Student Division representatives.
Prior to AOC, affiliate organizations from all over the state submit applications for project grant funding. In conjunction with AOC, affiliate leaders make a grant presentation on their chosen projects. At the end of AOC, the YLD announces the award recipients. Last year the YLD awarded over $50,000.00 for project grant funding.
Typical awards range between $500 and $1,500, though projects have received as much as $5,000 in the past. The deadline to apply for affiliate grants is December 23, 2016. Please visit the YLD website for ideas, including access to an idea bank to assist local bar affiliates with their programming.
At the event, the YLD also plans to present its annual affiliate awards, including Affiliate of the Year, Affiliate Public Service Project of the Year and Affiliate Member Service Project of the Year. The deadline to apply for these awards is December 8, 2016.
Two members of each affiliate are each eligible to receive a $400 reimbursement for attendance at AOC. This year’s conference is jam-packed with an amazing schedule of events that you won’t want to miss. The weekend will feature an opening general assembly and leadership bootcamp, a fun night of dinner and fireworks, a Dream 5k and fun run celebrating Martin Luther King weekend, a Disney character breakfast, an opportunity to learn about affiliate projects hosted across the state, and networking with some of the best and brightest young lawyers in Florida.
