Do you think having “it all” is realistic or overrated? Why?
Having it all is overrated because you have to determine what is important to you as an individual and not compare yourself to others. But if you are confident with your own choices, then having it all becomes a non-issue.

What does having “it all” mean to you?
Having it all to me means having a job that I feel passionate about and one where I feel I’m doing good and using my full potential.

I would tell my younger self to not be in such a rush.  Life is long and we have more time than we think to accomplish our goals.

Do you deal with guilt in trying to balance your personal and professional lives?
When I was younger and my kids were younger, I focused more on them and less on my career. But now that they are older, I have more time to focus on my career.

What single change do you believe would have the biggest impact on work life balance or quality of life?
Many of the Judicial Conferences are out of town and away from home. If they were local, I could still spend my nights at home with my family.

As a working parent, how do you balance your career and your role as a parent?
My children and family always comes first. As long as everything at home is in order, my career/work life will run smoothly. Therefore, I will be able to concentrate at work with a clear mind.

Civil/Professional involvement is extremely important. I believe that you have to give back to your community.

What’s the advice you would give a young lawyer seeking to strike a “balance” between family, self, and the practice of law or achieve better quality of life?
Make sure that you love what you’re doing. If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you will become resentful and question why you are spending that time away from your family. However, if you truly enjoy what you are doing, then it will be worth the time that you spend apart.
