Aired Wednesday, May 17, 2017. This program, featuring speakers Ian M. Comisky, William E. Ridgeway, and Ayana N. Harris, highlights the continuing tensions in the attempt to balance law enforcement efforts to stop terrorism, money laundering and other criminal activities and privacy rights in the United States. The program reviews a series of hypotheticals. The topics include those “ripped right out of the headlines” dealing with searches of computers, searches of cell phones, cell site information searches done without warrants in order to secure the location of an individual, email searches done secretly or by way of government warrant and searches involving offshore records. Our distinguished panel reviews the hypotheticals, and discusses the existing case law and a preview of upcoming trends in the circuit and the Supreme Court.
