About Us

The Marion County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (“MCBA YLD”) is composed of area young lawyers who are 36 years old or younger or who have been practicing less than five years. Over the years, MCBA YLD has hosted various community events and donated thousands of dollars to local charities.
Our most long running program is the “Great Debate” held in the spring. This event is a two day, Lincoln-Douglas style high school debate competition, with contestants advocating the pro/con position on various political and legal subjects. Contestants are scored and critiqued by local attorneys and judges, and winners are given gift cards and commemorative plaques.
The MCBA YLD has also hosted other events including a “Health and Wellness” kayaking trip at Crystal River, a “Back to School” ice cream party for a local shelter and a “Driver’s License Reinstatement Clinic” for county residents.
Although we do not hold regular YLD meetings, we would love for you to join us at the MCBA general lunch meetings, currently held on the second Tuesday of each month in the Jury Assembly Room of the Marion County Judicial Center.
